PAUL LEWIS - ‘The Ultimate Collection’ Fridays @ 4pm - 6pm I have been DJ’ing since I was 13 and have always loved Jazz Funk & Soul having been influenced massively by my Dad (modern Jazz) and Mum (Soul). During my 20’s I was the resident DJ in the Amphitheatre at the Brunel Rooms in Swindon which was a fantastic venue and people would travel from across the country, to boogie down and dance to Jazz Funk & Soul alongside some of the finest dancers in the UK.The nights were regularly mentioned in Blues & Soul Magazine and it is also featured in the book ‘The History of the UK Jazz Dance Scene’ written by Mark ‘Snowboy’ Cotgrove. I appeared at various 80’s Soul Weekenders and DJ’d at various venues across the UK and was fortunate to work alongside some of the legends such as Pete Tong, Tim Westwood and Colin Curtis together with some of the finest local DJ’s in the South West. In recent years I have DJ’d at various Jazz Funk & Soul nights and recently appeared on the ‘Soul Train Show’ on Swindon 105.5 Radio which really made me want to have my own radio show. Being invited to become a DJ/Presenter with the JFSR family is a great privilege and so I hope you enjoy listening to my shows which will feature a collection of the ultimate in soul, funk, jazz funk and ‘real’ jazz My 3 favourite artists are: 1.George Benson 2.Lionel Richie and 3.The Fatback Band. My 3 favourite tracks (geez this is hard): Joy & Pain by Maze, Black is the colour by Wilbert Longmire and Shame by Evelyn Champagne King. Would have a different 3 tracks this time tomorrow though!

I'm specialized in late 70's to mid 80's Funk & Disco, but every now and then I like throw a few reworks or Soulful/Funky House cuts in the set. Some of my all time favorite tunes: Charades - Gimme The Funk Empire projecting Penny - Freakman Michael Jonzun - Burnin' Up Whispers - Imagination

Hi Im Colin Leonce, An old Soul boy from North West London who when I was a kid, sometime around the early to mid-70s, I used to sneak out of bed to listen to my parents and relatives partying downstairs. And one time I heard them playing Marvin Gaye’s album ‘What’s Going On’ - an album that changed what I thought about music, where it could take me and how it could make me feel. Since that day, Soul, Jazz and Funk have become more and more a central part of my life. Im delighted to join JFSR and look forward to sharing the music of my life with you. These days some of my favorites include; • David Sanborn - The theme from “Love is not enough” • James Fortune & FIYA - Hold On • Al Hudson And the Soul Partners - Spread Love And I guarantee to play some of the best of all this if you join me on The LeonC Guarantee Show! You're guaranteed the best in Soul, Jazz and Funk over the next two hours! All killers no fillers! LeonC

My show - The Selection Box - every Tuesday 4pm - 6pm it has this name because I can't stick to any particular genre for too long. I love Jazz and Jazz Funk, so I always start with a handful of tracks old and new; then we go wherever the mood takes me. It can be Soulful House, Rare Groove, 60/70s Soul or Modern Soul. One things for sure, the start of hour two I'll always bring you three Lovers Rock tracks and I follow these with my slow jam of the week. After this, I generally start picking up the pace as we move through the final 45 minutes or so. Here you'll get to hear more Soul, maybe some RnB, Philly, New Jack Swing or even some garage! Finally, at any point of the show, if the mood takes me, you'll get some dance floor favourites or as some call them 'Anthems'.

Hi Im Gayle - also known as Lawless and The Soulful Jamboree is in its sixth year on JFSR. It follows a very simple format. If it’s Funky and Eclectic, it will be on the show. I start with a “left-field” joint, slight off the beaten track but nonetheless soulful. I also have a feature called “I Don’t Like Reggae”, so titled because I never liked the genre growing up but it’s become a staple in my musical diet. I finish off with a 20 minute mix of Afro house, Jacking house, Disco Re-Edits, Soulful House, Whatever takes me on a journey. My 3 all time favourite artists are - Maze - Earth, Wind & Fire - John Holt Hard to pick just 3 as I love many artists from many genres. Very much looking forward to taking the good ship JFSR forward with its slightly different style and feel, and steering her into a promising future.

Koal Bee – Sneakers 54

14:00Thursday

14:00Thursday

Hi Im Koal Bee, I've loved the soulful vibes of Jazz Funk & Soul from my early teens in the mid 70's. I recall the days that my eldest sister "Kay" would play tunes like Martha Reeves & the Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and the Jacksons on our parents old Gramophone. We couldn't wait till our parents went out so we could blast these tunes out in our East End home. Then a few years later my older brother "Jas" got into the Soul music of the late 70's and he began to influence me with his 12" vinyl tunes ... Listed among these were Cerrone, Brass Construction, War, George Benson, Chic and Cameo. He was a bit of a dancer too so I soon learned how to boogie with the best. At the age of 15 the George Benson album "In Flight" finally got me hooked on the Jazz-Funk tunes I love to play with a passion to this day. As fate would have it, I started work on a market stall at weekends opposite a record stall that specialised in Japanese Jazz-Funk (the in thing in those days). I started to save my pennies and spent them all on records .... this is where the "collection" began. I began doing a radio show back in 2001 mainly to play the album tracks that passed us by in our youth and that other jocks just wouldn't play. I'm a firm believer that our music tastes change as we grow older and thats why the tunes we missed in our youth begin to be more appealing to us ..."The Sneakers54 Collection" is all about bringing this great music to the airwaves.

HI, Im Mellow A, Born in Birmingham , United kingdom . I bought my first record at 14 years of age , with my paper round money and played my first disco at age 15 at the local youth centre. I was brought up on Reggae , as it was easier to listen to and buy Reggae back in the 70's than it was to hear non-chart Soul. On a Monday night the Locarno in Birmingham used to have a Reggae and Soul /Disco night. This was my introduction to Soul along with Saturday Night Fever. I started to buy non commercial music , now known as Rare Grooves and Boogie. A friend of mine started a " Community " radio station and Mellow A was born. The name was given to me because of the style of music I used to and still play. 1990 saw me relocate to London from Birmingham and that's where I picked up the Rare Groove bug. My shows are a mix of all my musical history from the old to the new to the rare. My other obsession are live shows and Ive been fortunate enough to have seen all of the Reggae and Soul greats from the 70's to the present day . Please join me Sundays 12-2 where I,ll take you on a musical journey with my Oasis show.

Hi, Im The Soulful Medic aka Mr C, Growing up in South East London during the 80s I was surrounded by Soul music..... and I loved it!! I was hooked from an early age. Forrest's 'Rock The Boat' was the first single a young Mr C purchased from 'Reeds Records'... a tiny record shop in Peckham. During the middle of that wonderful decade I then discovered Radio London and my passion grew. 94.9 FM and Tony Blackburn confirmed my love of the genre and it has stayed with me ever since. A chance meeting with Dave Marley 4 years ago allowed me to share my love of Soul music on this wonderful station of ours JFSR. If you fancy a stroll down memory lane, along with a few classic Boogie tracks on the way, then I would be delighted to share your company each and every Sunday, 4 till 6 on the biggest and the best Jazz Funk Soul Radio. My favourite 3 tracks : 1. Sahara - Love So Fine 2. BB&Q Band - Dreamer 3. Viola Wills - Dare To Dream

About The Show Joining the dots between Jazz, Latin, Brazilian, Soul, Folk, Funk, Rare Groove, Afro-Cuban & Boogie all with a Jazz undertone. Top 3 Artists and songs of all time This is a tough one as it changes all the time but today, I’ll go with: • John Coltrane – A Love Supreme • Alice Coltrane – Journey In Satchidananda • Kelan Phil Cohran And Legacy – White Nile David Patterson Bio Dave started DJing and collecting records in 1987, inspired by the Rare Groove warehouse and Jazz Dance scenes of late 80's London, going on to land a residency with iconic DJ of the UK Jazz scene, Kev Beadle at ground breaking club night “Sound Foundation” at Turnmills in the early 90s. After presenting a weekly show on a London pirate radio station, he progressed into producing his own music, eventually becoming signed by Mo' Wax Records, featuring on some of the label's early releases including the seminal “Headz” LP, doing remix work for Acid Jazz Records amongst others and becoming part of an early incarnation of the UNKLE line up. He also became resident DJ at the legendary Mo’ Wax sessions “Dusted” at The Blue Note, Hoxton alongside James Lavelle and Charlie Dark plus guests such as DJ Shadow, Carl Craig & DJ Krush. Patterson continued to produce and release music both solo and with his group Dark Circle, including the acclaimed LP "Civilians" on Jazz Fudge Records. Throughout this time Dave’s first love remained music based in Jazz and he continued to collect records, going on month-long crate digging trips throughout the USA each year as well as destinations as far flung as Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia and Germany in search of those vinyl gems. His DJing style joins the dots between Soul, Brazilian, Folk, Funk, Latin, Rare Groove, Afro-Cuban & Boogie all with a Jazz undertone.
