ABOUT THE DJ
My name is Dave Regan, and somewhere along the line I seemed to acquire the nickname of ‘Dodgy’ ! Not too sure where it came from.....oh, ok then maybe I do, perhaps a few of the deals I did in my self employed days may have been seen by some to be ‘shady’ shall we say ?
Well, after skipping through all the profiles on the station I can see that I may well get myself a new nickname of Dad ! Next May (2016) I will hit the ripe old age of 60 ! But then in the words of the sadly missed Aaliyah “Age aint nuthin but a number!”
I started my DJ career at the ripe old age of 15 when my good mate Andy O’Keefe and I built our first triple deck console (yes three decks, we were radical !), hired some Carlsbro speakers and started doing the school hall circuit.
Can’t claim to have been a soul boy at that stage, was more like My brother Jake and Hot Love, though it didn’t take long to realise that I preferred Indiana wants me and Didn’t I blow your mind this time !
We kept that going through our informative years and it soon became apparent where we were heading musically when we became the Bus Stop Roadshow and Oliver Sain was our theme tune !
Now it became specialist soul gigs as we built our rep as soul boys and that was it, I was off ! From the great days of mobiles I progressed to pubs and clubs in and around Hertfordshire.
When I wasn’t giggin you’d find me tearing up the floors in Crackers, Scamps, California Ballroom, 100 Club and Ronnie Scotts, oh they were good days !
Many years later as I moved out of the clubs and became a little more ‘mainstream’ my first love of music suffered and the financial constraints of having to eat meant more ‘commercial’ fodder had to be presented.
Hotels, Cruise ships and corporate events took over until I took a leaf out of Roberto Duran’s book and said “No Mas” ! Couldn’t do it any more and ‘retired’.
But the love of the music, (and the vinyl collection) never left me and when I stumbled across JFSR and the opportunity to go back to doing what I loved, playing MY tunes to an appreciative audience, I just had to get involved.
Well all I can say to Dave Marley, Pete Evans and everyone else at JFSR who have been so welcoming and supportive, is a massive thank you ! Studio is built, records have been dusted off, I’ve even invested in some of this new fangled MP3 technology though I think people have already gathered over the last 3 months I am a vinyl nut ! I love presenting on our station and hopefully will be here for many many years to come !
Keep the Faith
‘Dodgy’ Dave Regan
