Roy Medallion is one of the UK’s leading Lovers Rock DJs with a track record stretching as far back as the 1970’s. As an East End of London born boy, Hackney to be exact, Roy Medallion began buying music at a very early age from his school days at Cardinal Pole and St Phillip Howard.
He first began entertaining crowds at birthday parties for friends and family, then, not long after he began to venture into playing at nightclubs. By the 1980’s his reputation as a Lovers Rock selector saw him gaining regular bookings at clubs such as Lambards, Pier One, Night Moves, Dougies, Shenola’s and Mingles.
Towards the end of the 1980’s he began to start making his name in the world of radio as well. As his reputation, and following grew into the ‘90s, this led to a special one off show on KISS FM in 1997 where they did a special feature on the leading club DJs at the time. You can now find Roy Medallion JFSR each and every Saturday 10:00 - Midnight. Such is his popularity throughout all of these years that he has become the leading DJ for promoters of some of the biggest Lovers Rock concert on the country. This includes entertaining audiences in venues such as the O2 with many of the biggest names in UK Reggae amongst the guests.
Whilst he is known as a Lovers Rock DJ, he is also capable of entertaining audiences with touches of Soul and other Reggae formats, although Lovers Rock remains his speciality. In 2011, he was rewarded for his over 30 year’s service to Reggae music with a HiCrEc (Hidden Creative Economy) Award with a public vote as the UK’s Best Community DJ. Roy Medallion was a guest on David Rodigan BBC Radio 1Xtra show in 2017.
